What Smart Lock Brands Do We Install?

Schlage Encode, Yale Assure, August Wi-Fi, and Kwikset Halo are our most popular installs. All four work with standard door preps and connect to your home Wi-Fi. We've installed hundreds of each and know the quirks of every model.

Schlage Encode is our go-to recommendation for most homes. Built-in Wi-Fi (no hub needed), ANSI Grade 1 rated, and the app actually works well. August is great if you want to keep your existing deadbolt exterior and just automate the inside.

What Does Installation Include?

Everything from the hardware to the last line of code. We mount the physical lock, connect it to your Wi-Fi, download and configure the app on your phone, program your entry codes, set up auto-lock and auto-unlock if you want it, and pair it with Alexa or Google Home if you use those.

According to a 2025 Parks Associates survey, 38% of smart lock owners had trouble with setup. That's because most people skip the professional install. We don't leave until every feature is working and you understand how to use it.

Will a Smart Lock Fit My Existing Door?

Almost always yes. Smart locks from Schlage, Yale, and Kwikset fit standard residential door preps (2-1/8 inch bore, 1 inch edge bore). The only exceptions are non-standard commercial doors or very old doors with odd dimensions.

If your door is thicker than 1-3/4 inches (some high-end wood doors), we might need an extension kit. We carry those. If your door is too thin, some models won't fit and we'll recommend an alternative.

Common Questions

$150-$400 total including the lock hardware and installation. Basic Wi-Fi deadbolts start around $150. Premium models with fingerprint readers run up to $400.

Yes. Every smart lock we install has a physical keypad and/or key override. You can always enter with a code or key even with zero internet. The Wi-Fi just enables remote access and notifications.

Absolutely. That's one of the best features. Create a code for your Airbnb guest, dog walker, or contractor, then delete it when they don't need access anymore. All done from your phone.

Most last 6-12 months on 4 AA batteries. Schlage Encode averages about 6 months with moderate use. You'll get a low battery warning on your phone well before it dies.

The good ones are. Schlage Encode is ANSI Grade 1, same as their best mechanical deadbolt. Avoid cheap off-brand smart locks from Amazon. Stick with Schlage, Yale, or Kwikset.

Yes. Many landlords use smart locks for tenant turnover. Change codes between tenants instead of rekeying. We set up property managers with master codes and individual tenant codes.
