When Should You Replace a Lock Instead of Rekeying?
Replace when the hardware is physically worn, damaged, or outdated. If your lock cylinder turns rough, the deadbolt doesn't throw smoothly, or the knob wobbles, it's time for new hardware. Rekeying a bad lock just gives you new keys to a bad lock.
Also replace if you're upgrading security. A builder-grade Defiant knob from Home Depot is a different animal than an ANSI Grade 1 Schlage B60N deadbolt. The upgrade is worth it.
What Lock Brands Do We Install?
We carry Schlage, Kwikset, Yale, Medeco, and Mul-T-Lock in our vans. That covers everything from basic residential hardware ($30-60) to high-security pick-resistant cylinders ($200+).
Our most popular install is the Schlage B60N single-cylinder deadbolt. It's ANSI Grade 1, bump-resistant, and costs about $40-60 for the hardware. According to Schlage's own testing, it withstands over 250,000 cycles. For 99% of homes, it's the right choice.
How Long Does Lock Replacement Take?
30-60 minutes per lock for a standard swap. If the new lock fits the existing door prep (most do), it's straightforward. If we need to drill a new hole or modify the door prep, add another 15-20 minutes.
We test everything before we leave. Deadbolt throws clean, key turns smooth, strike plate sits flush. You won't have to call us back.
Common Questions
How much does it cost to replace a front door lock?
Typically $100-$250 including hardware and labor. A standard Schlage deadbolt runs about $140 total. High-security options like Medeco start around $300.
Can you match my new lock to my existing keys?
Sometimes. If you have Kwikset SmartKey locks, we can rekey the new lock to match your old key. Otherwise, we can key all your locks alike so one new key works everywhere.
Should I replace just the deadbolt or the knob too?
If the knob still works fine, just the deadbolt. But most people replace both while we're there since we're already on-site. It looks better and you get matching hardware.
Do you install electronic or smart locks?

Is the hardware included in your price?
Yes. Our prices include the lock hardware plus installation labor. We carry inventory in our vans so there's no markup from a retail store.
