Restricted Key Systems
$200 - $600 | 1-2 hours | Available 24/7
Restricted key systems prevent unauthorized key duplication. Only you (with your authorization card) can order copies. We install Medeco, Mul-T-Lock, and Abloy restricted cylinders for $200-$600 per door. Keys start at $15-$25 each.
What Is a Restricted Key System?
A lock system where the key blanks are controlled and can't be copied without authorization. Standard keys can be duplicated at any hardware store kiosk for $3. Restricted keys require your ID card at an authorized dealer. The blanks simply aren't available anywhere else.
This matters for businesses because employee key copies are a major security leak. According to ASIS International, unauthorized key duplication is a factor in 42% of commercial property theft incidents attributed to insiders. Restricted keys close that gap completely.
Which Restricted Key Brands Do We Carry?
Medeco, Mul-T-Lock, and Abloy. All three manufacture restricted keyways where the blanks are patented and distribution-controlled. Medeco's patent runs through 2032. Mul-T-Lock's Interactive+ is protected through 2030. Abloy Protec2 is protected through 2034.
We're authorized dealers for all three brands, meaning we can cut restricted keys on-site and order additional blanks as needed. You don't need to go through a third party.
Common Questions
How much does a restricted key system cost?
$200-$350 per door for Medeco. $250-$400 for Mul-T-Lock. $300-$600 for Abloy Protec2. Additional keys run $15-$25 each.
Can you convert our existing locks to restricted keyways?
In most cases yes. We swap the cylinder (the part the key goes into) while keeping your existing lock body. Works with most mortise locks and standard cylindrical locks.
How do I get more keys made?
Call us with your authorization card number. We cut them on-site or at your location same day. No one else can make copies without that card.
Is a restricted key the same as 'Do Not Duplicate'?
No. 'Do Not Duplicate' is a stamped request that anyone can ignore. A restricted key is physically impossible to copy without the proprietary blank, which is only available to authorized dealers. Completely different level of control.
