Master Key Systems
$200 - $800 | 2-4 hours | Available 24/7
Triton Locksmith design and install master key systems for offices, buildings, and multi-tenant properties for $200-$800. Your building manager gets a grand master, department heads get sub-masters, and employees get individual keys. All pinned on-site same day.
How Does a Commercial Master Key System Work?
Multiple levels of key access, all controlled by pin configuration. A grand master key opens everything. Sub-master keys open a department or floor. Individual keys open only one door. All running on the same lock hardware with different pin combinations.
We design the key hierarchy before we touch a single lock. For a 50-door office building, the pin chart needs careful planning to avoid cross-keying (where an individual key accidentally opens a door it shouldn't). We've designed systems for buildings with over 200 doors.
Who Needs a Commercial Master Key System?
Any building where different people need different levels of access. Property management companies, medical offices, corporate buildings, schools, HOA common areas, and retail centers. If your maintenance crew needs access to everything but tenants should only enter their own space, this is the solution.
According to ASIS International, access management (including key control) is one of the top 5 physical security measures for commercial properties. A well-designed master key system eliminates the problem of unauthorized key copies floating around.
Common Questions
How much does a commercial master key system cost?
$200-$400 for small offices (5-15 doors). $400-$800 for multi-tenant buildings (15-50 doors). Custom quotes for larger properties. We price per lock plus a design fee for the key chart.
Can you master-key locks from different brands?
Within the same keyway family, yes. We typically standardize all locks to one brand (usually Schlage or Corbin Russwin) for best results. If you have mixed brands, we may need to replace some cylinders.
How long does installation take?
2-4 hours for a typical office. Larger buildings might take a full day. We repin each cylinder on-site. No locks need to be removed from the doors.
What happens if we add new doors later?
We keep your pin chart on file. When you add a door, we pin the new lock to fit the existing system. Call us and we'll come out same day.
Is a master key system less secure?
The master wafers create an additional shear line, which technically makes manipulation slightly easier. For an office environment, the risk is negligible. If maximum security is needed for specific doors, we can use restricted keyways on those locks.
