What Is an Electric Strike and How Does It Work?
An electric strike replaces the standard metal strike plate in your door frame. When it receives an electrical signal (from a button, intercom, or access control reader), the strike pivots open and allows the door to push open without turning the handle. Release the signal and the strike returns to locked position.
Electric strikes work with your existing lock hardware. You don't need to replace the lock itself. The strike does the remote release while the mechanical lock still provides physical security when the system is at rest.

Standard electric strike: $200-$300. Heavy-duty/fire-rated: $300-$500. Price includes the strike, wiring to the control source, and testing.
What's the difference between fail-secure and fail-safe?
Fail-secure stays locked during a power outage (used on exterior doors). Fail-safe unlocks during power loss (used on fire exits per code). We install the correct type based on your door's function and fire code requirements.
Can an electric strike work with my existing deadbolt?
Electric strikes work with latch bolts (spring-loaded). They don't work with deadbolts because deadbolts need to be physically retracted. For deadbolt doors, we use electric latch retraction or magnetic locks instead.
